Ah, the Circuit. This vehicle has been through so much. It has always had a great chassis and durable design. The original version had numerous problems with the electronics though, and it took nearly a year to get fixed. But when it did, it got fixed right. ECX added a 2.4GHz radio system, new (and waterproof) electronics, and even threw in a peak charger to boot! The new Circuit has all the traits of a great beginner truck: durable, easily upgradable, comes with solid equipment, and is affordable. So while it may have had a rough start, the Circuit has a bright future ahead of it.

  • Waterproof electronics allow for fun in rain, mud, and snow
  • Spektrum 2.4GHz Radio System means no glitching or frequency problems
  • 6-cell battery and 1hr Peak Charger included!
  • Super durable design and materials make this a great beginner vehicle
  • Comes equipped with ball bearings, not bushings
  • High ground clearance means grass is no problem!
  • 15+ MPH out of the box
  • Requires nothing else to run!

Much like the Circuit, the Ruckus was a vehicle fraught with electronics problems from the start. But with the new reboot of the ECX line, the Ruckus is back, bringing with it a 2.4GHz radio, waterproof electronics, and a peak charger in the box. Its major competition is the Traxxas Stampede, and it excels in the match-up. The Ruckus has a longer wheelbase - meaning it handles better than the Stampede does. It also sits slightly lower to the ground, while still able to rip around tall grass. The durability that the Ruckus provides, along with everything else, makes this a great basher vehicle for any beginner. The price tag doesn't hurt either!

ECX Torment RTR
ECX03006 (Silver/Blue) or ECX03007 (Black/Green) by ECX
$254.99

  • Waterproof electronics allow for fun in rain, mud, and snow
  • Spektrum 2.4GHz Radio System means no glitching or frequency problems
  • 6-cell battery and 1hr Peak Charger included!
  • Super durable design and materials make this a great beginner vehicle
  • Comes equipped with ball bearings, not bushings
  • Realistic short course appearance
  • 20+ MPH out of the box
  • Requires nothing else to run!

The ECX Torment never really had the problems that its brethren (the Circuit or Ruckus) had. Nonetheless, it too has been upgraded to the same 2.4GHz radio, waterproof electronics, and peak charger. And let me tell you - this thing is durable! We've really put this truck through the wringer, and it blew past anything we had to throw at it with flying colors. The major competition for the Torment is the Traxxas Slash, and it's really a tough battle between the two. Is the Torment as good a truck as the Slash? No, but it's pretty darn close. And with a price tag $90 short of the Slash, pretty darn close is probably good enough. It is for us!

Traxxas Bandit RTR
TRA24054 by Traxxas
$345.00
$209.99
    Key Features
  • Waterproof electronics allow for fun in rain, mud, and snow
  • Steel gear transmission is brushless-power ready
  • 2.4Ghz Radio, 8.4v NiMH Battery and AC charger included
  • High-torque steering servo provides superior turning ability
  • Revo-spec Torque-Control slipper clutch system
  • Low center-of-gravity provides great handling on pavement or dirt
  • 30+ MPH out of the box
  • Requires 8 AA Batteries

The Bandit has always been the least popular of the entry-level Traxxas vehicles - for us, anyway. There are plenty of upgrades available for the Bandit, making customization easy and fun. And while it's a great handling buggy, the lower ground clearance makes it difficult for it to run in grass. If you've got dirt, pavement, or gravel for it to run in, the Bandit is a great first-time R/C vehicle. But if you're looking for something to run in the backyard, you may want to look at the Rustler, Stampede, or the Slash. They are better equipped to handle rougher terrain.

The Stampede has always been a great seller. It has a high ground clearance for running in grass. It's waterproof, so an accidental (or intentional) splash won't hurt. And it has a great price point that makes it very beginner friendly, while still allowing for upgrades in the future. And Traxxas built the Stampede for bashing, though the Slash is slightly more durable. With tons of hop-ups and accessories available for the Stampede, everyone can find aftermarket parts to suit their needs (or desires). Bottom-line: if you're looking for a great beginner-friendly truck, the Stampede is the truck for you!

Traxxas Monster Jam RTRs

$239.99
    Key Features
  • Waterproof electronics allow for fun in rain, mud, and snow
  • Steel gear transmission is brushless-power ready
  • 8.4v NiMH Battery and AC charger included
  • Fully-Licensed Monster Jam Replica bodies!
  • Revo-spec Torque-Control slipper clutch system
  • High ground clearance means grass is no problem!
  • 30+ MPH out of the box
  • Requires 8 AA Batteries

The Monster Jam series of trucks has been a bit of a mystery to us. It's strong evidence that licensing matters in this day and age. There are no substantial differences between the Monster Jam trucks and the Stampede. That means that they have the same great features like a steel-gear transmission, waterproof electrionics, and the same great durability. It also means that you're paying more for the Monster Jam body. If you absolutely need to have a Grave Digger or Maximum Destruction body on your R/C truck, pick up one of the Monster Jam trucks. Otherwise, save a bit of money and pick up a Stampede.

Traxxas Slash RTR
TRA58034 by Traxxas
$430.00
$249.99
    Key Features
  • Waterproof electronics allow for fun in rain, mud, and snow
  • Steel gear transmission is brushless-power ready
  • 8.4v NiMH Battery and AC charger included
  • 2.4GHz Traxxas TQ Radio system provides no-hassle R/C fun
  • High ground clearance means grass is no problem!
  • Revo-spec Torque-Control slipper clutch system
  • 35+ MPH out of the box
  • Requires 4 AA Batteries

The only difference between this Slash (#5803) and the Slash we carry (#5805) is the addition of a 2.4GHz radio. It has the same great durability and design as our regularly carried Slash. The 2.4GHz radio doesn't require crystals or even have a set frequency - it jumps around the frequencies to ensure a clear signal gets to your vehicle. The only reason we don't carry this version is the price tag. At an average of $20 more than the #5805 Slash, it's over the $250 mark, which makes it a harder sell in the store. But we can always order one in, so don't hesitate to pull the trigger (so to speak) and snatch up one of these great trucks!

Traxxas Bandit VXL RTR
TRA2407 by Traxxas
$590.00
$349.99
    Key Features
  • Waterproof electronics allow for fun in rain, mud, and snow
  • Brushless power and efficiency - and LiPo-ready out of the box
  • 3000mAh 8.4v NiMH Battery and AC Charger included
  • 2.4GHz Traxxas TQi Radio system provides no-hassle R/C fun
  • Low center-of-gravity provides great handling on pavement or dirt
  • Revo-spec Torque-Control slipper clutch system
  • 35+ MPH out of the box, capable of 70+ MPH
  • Requires 4 AA Batteries

The Bandit VXL, like it's less expensive sibling, isn't a very popular model for us. The brushless power that Traxxas' Velineon Power System brings to the table is undeniably awesome. But with the Bandit VXL's low ground clearance, making use of that power is difficult in rough terrain. On dirt, pavement, or gravel it's a speedy little buggy that handles great. But on grass it's much slower if it goes at all. Just like the regular Bandit, if you're looking for something to zip around the backyard with, you might want to opt for a vehicle with a higher ground clearance.

Traxxas Rustler VXL RTR
TRA3707 by Traxxas
$605.00
$349.99
    Key Features
  • Waterproof electronics allow for fun in rain, mud, and snow
  • Brushless power and efficiency - and LiPo-ready out of the box
  • 3000mAh 8.4v NiMH Battery and AC Charger included

  • Revo-spec Torque-Control slipper clutch system
  • 35+ MPH out of the box, capable of 70+ MPH
  • Requires 4 AA Batteries

The Rustler VXL is the speed demon of the Rustler family. The Velineon Brushless power system is efficient - and fast! The truck is built to handle that power well; the lower suspension setup is great for handling and speed on dirt, gravel, or pavement (but not super great on grass). The Velineon system maintains that waterproof element, keeping everything working in the rain or snow. Since it's the same chassis as the basic Rustler, there are still plenty of options for upgrading almost anything on the truck. Make the Rustler VXL the spectacle of your cul-de-sac!

  • Revo-spec Torque-Control slipper clutch system
  • 35+ MPH out of the box, capable of 65+ MPH
  • Requires 4 AA Batteries

An alternative name for the Stampede VXl could be "The Wheelie Machine". With its short wheelbase, high center-of-gravity (CG) , and Velineon Brushless power system, the Stampede VXL is the only 2WD vehicle Traxxas makes that comes with a wheelie bar in the box, and it needs it. The Stampede VXL can conquer almost any terrain with its high ground clearance - almost 4"! The Stampede VXL is great for any R/C hobbist that craves speed and the ability to go anywhere. While the handling isn't as great as vehicles with a lower CG, the Stampede VXL powers through rough terrain as if it weren't there. A monster truck with insane speed? Yup, the Stampede VXL fits that description quite well.

There isn't much Traxxas could have done to make the Slash a better basher truck. Then they introduced the Slash VXL. All of the great aspects of the Slash coupled with the tremendous power and speed the Velineon Brushless power system results in the absolute pinnacle of 2WD basher vehicles. The Slash VXL is the most durable, efficient, and user-friendly 2WD truck we carry. Now that it comes with a LiPo battery, the high speeds we've come to expect with Traxxas' cars is even easier to achieve. Combined with Traxxas' great customer support, it makes the Slash VXL a sure bet!
